Yahoo! Video began as a video search engine and May 5th, 2005[1] and re-launched Yahoo!video with the ability to upload and share video clips to Yahoo! Video's web servers on June 1, 2006.[2] It has combined a traditional video search engine, which crawls and links off to videos on different web sites, with a Web 2.0 service that allows users to upload, share, tag, and host their videos on Yahoo!, offering an embedded player experience like YouTube or Google Video.[citation needed]
Unlike the latter, Yahoo! Video does not work for users of Linux. Yahoo! recommends Windows XP/Mac OS X and Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari and for compliant users, Yahoo! Video allows users to search millions of videos from across the Web. The free service provides users with a means to search and play videos directly from Yahoo! Video, save them to their 'favorites' page, subscribe to channels for video sources, and embed videos on their web pages and blog posts. The homepage contains editorially-featured videos from around the Web, including other sites like iFilm and MySpace. The homepage changes daily and skews towards viral video content.
Current TV had a business relationship with Yahoo! Video to supply video "channels" to The Yahoo! Current Network.
