[edit] Economy

The district is rich in Agriculture & aquaculture with Rice, Sugar and Coconut being important crops. Industrialization is meagre in the district and 80% of the populace still depends on agriculture for their livelihood. ONGC had found rich oil & gas resources in 1970, but exploration is still underway. Education is moderate and most of the people live in villages and remote areas. NH 5 passes through some parts of the district. Economy is agriculture based. Cottage industries like jute, lace are prominent in some areas. Mostly this district is neglected by Government for setting up any significant major industries. Hence, Jobs available/generated in the sectors like Industries, IT, Firms are almost nil in the District, so that entire youth has to migrate to other areas in search of jobs after completing educations. Present globalization, Information boom has no touchwood to this district and hence in the present global norms, this district can be called a 'remote district'.

[edit] Seasons and Climate

The region mostly has a tropical climate like the rest of the Coastal Andhra region. The summers (March-June) are very hot and humid with practically non-existent winters. The rainy season (July-Jan) is the best time to visit this place with the fields brilliantly green with paddy crops, rivulets flowing with water and the sun shining brightly, but not burning as it does in the summer. The regions has long been home to Indian nobles due to its climate and fertile soil, and several zamindar mansions are scattered around the Godavari area.
