Wembley is a suburb of North-West London which forms the northern part of the London Borough of Brent. It is located 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Charing Cross.

Wembley is the location of the English national football stadium, Wembley Stadium, the home of the English national football team and the venue for several football tournament finals. It was the site of the British Empire Exhibition in 1924-5, the largest surviving building of which is the Wembley Arena, major concert venue, and for 39 years the site of the Professional World Singles Tournament in tennis. It was also the location of the Wembley Conference Centre which hosted, among other events, the Masters snooker tournament which is now to be held at Wembley Arena.

Wembley formed and urban district and later municipal borough from 1894 to 1965.

Speedway racing was staged on a regular basis at Wembley Stadium from 1929 to 1939, 1946 to 1955 and 1970 and 1971. The Wembley Lions were members of the First Division and won a number of League and other competitions.

It also staged a number of World Finals and other big events in other seasons. The last speedway World Final meeting was staged at Wembley in 1981.

Wembley riders Lionel Van Praag (1936), Tommy Price (1949) and Freddie Williams (1950 and 1953) won World Championships in their time at the Empire Stadium.

Wembley however suffers from very high crime rates and many gang and gun related crime. statistics show that wembley is one of the most dangerous towns in london, although many areas have recently been regenerated, wembley remains one of the roughest towns in london and indeed the UK.
