Wasatch-Cache National Forest is a national forest located in Utah. The name is from the Ute word Wasatch for a low place in high mountains, and the French word Cache meaning to hide. It was originally a term that referred to fur trappers, the first Europeans to visit the land. The forest boundaries include over 2 million acres (8000 km²) of land.
The Wasatch-Cache is headquartered in downtown Salt Lake City, Utahhas six outlying ranger districts located in Holladay, Utah, Ogden, Utah, Kamas, Utah, Logan, Utah, Evanston, Wyoming and Mountain Green, Wyoming.
In August of 2007, it was announced that the Wasatch-Cache National Forest would merge with the neighboring Uinta National Forest in order to more efficiently manage similar resources. The merged forest will be based out of Provo, Utah and the Kamas Ranger District will be merged with the Uinta National Forest's Heber Ranger District.
