A verse is generally considered to be a single line in a metrical composition, e.g. poetry. Although, the use of "verse" has come to represent any division or grouping of words in such a composition, which traditionally had been referred to as a stanza. The words "verse" and "poetry" are sometimes used synonymously, though verse usually indicates the use of rhythm and meter, with the exception of the free verse form.
