[edit] History

VanderCook Cornet School (later VanderCook College of Music) was founded in 1909 by Hale A. VanderCook when he purchased the home, school and studios of his teacher, Alfred F. Weldon. The school was incorporated in 1928 as a non-profit teacher training institution, and graduated its first class in the summer of 1931. Those six students all received a Bachelor of Music Education degree and certification to teach bands and orchestras in the public schools.
