The film made on a Rs.9 crore budget opened big in Tamil Nadu and within a week the producers were looking at profits. It was a surprise hit at the box office, it raised business for the 6 actors and the soundtrack was an even bigger success. Raised approximately 25 crores.

1. This movie was later remade in Kannada as YEJAMANA starring Dr.Vishnuvardhan,Shashikumar,Abhijit,Prema,Pavitra Lokesh,Swati,Shobhraj,Avinash. It was also remade in Telegu as ANNAYYA starring Dr.Rajashekar,Meena, 2.While VANATHAI POLA made an average buisness, ANNAYYA was a Flop. But YEJAMANA went on to become the super hit even crossing the revenues of the original. This movie once again established Vishnuvardhan as one of the top heros of kannada film industry
