Vaaranam Aayiram (English: A Thousand Elephants) is a forthcoming Tamil film being directed by Gautham Menon and produced by Oscar Ravichandran. It stars Surya Sivakumar, Sameera Reddy and Divya Spandana in pivotal roles with Daniel Balaji acting in a supporting role. The film's score and soundtrack will be composed by Harris Jayaraj with lyrics penned by Thamarai. Shooting for the film has already begun in Afganistan and is soon expected to move to locations in the United States of America, India, Malaysia and Russia. The film is slated for release in early 2008.

  • Deepika Padukone was supposed to do the role of the heroine in the film but backed out because the film wasn't rolling as scheduled and its dates were clashing with Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om. [2]
  • Earlier, Asin was considered for the role of the leading lady of the film but rejected the film due to reasons not known. Recent reports state that she could be doing this film. [3].
  • More recently Genelia D'Souza has also pulled out of the project.
  • The announcement poster and title design (as seen alongside) were done by Wannabe Studios/Wheitstone, a design house based in Chennai.
  • The film according to Gautham is supposed to be Gautham's version of the Tom Hank's blockbuster Forrest Gump, where Surya plays the lead role which Tom Hanks glorified.
  • Surya is on a weight-losing spree in order to fit the "school student" look that Tom Hanks maintained in the original.
