Upper Galilee

The Upper Galilee is a mountainous area in northern Israel, its borders are the Litani river in Lebanon at the north, the Mediterranean Sea at the west, the Bet HaKerem valley in the south and the Jordan river at the east.

The Upper Galilee is the northern sub-area of the Galilee region of Israel and Lebanon. It is separated from the Lower Galilee by the Bet HaKerem valley. Its mountains are taller and valleys are deeper than those in the Lower Galilee. Its tallest peak is Har Meron at 1,208 m above sea level. The area spreads over 1,500 km², about 700 in Israel and the rest in Lebanon.

The city Safed in recognized as 'Capital of the Galilee'.
