A triple album is a musical work whose length forced it to be released on three LP records. These types of albums, as with double albums are generally thought to be typical of the progressive rock genre, but not all have been: exemplified by The Clash's eclectic 1980 project Sandinista!. The triple album is not limited to studio albums. 3 LP retrospectives of an artist's work called box sets can sometimes be considered triple albums.
