Thomas Meehan is a Tony award-winning writer, best known for Annie, The Producers and Hairspray (musical).
Meehan graduated from Hamilton College in 1951.
He received his first Tony Award in 1977 for writing the book for Annie, his Broadway debut, and subsequently won for The Producers (2001) and Hairspray (2002). Additional credits include the musical adaptation of I Remember Mama, Oh Kay (musical) Ain't Broadway Grand Annie 2 and Annie Warbucks, the off-Broadway sequel to Annie. In addition, he is a long-time contributor of humor to The New Yorker, an Emmy Award-winning writer of television comedy, and a collaborator on a number of screenplays, One Magic Christmas, including Mel Brooks' Spaceballs and To Be or Not to Be.
Meehan's latest project areYoung Frankenstein, a 2007 musical stage adaptation of the 1974 film written in collaboration with Brooks, Cry Baby and Elf.
Meehan is a member of the Council of the Dramatists Guild of America.
