The Very Best of Prince is a Best of compilation album by Prince, released in 2001. It contains most of his commercially successful singles in their radio edits, including the U.S. #1's "Let's Go Crazy", "When Doves Cry", "Kiss" and "Cream".
The album cover is somewhat a point of contention with some fans. It consists of 9 photos in a square shape, but the selection of photos is odd and does not really represent the album's contents. Two of the nine photos are from albums from which no songs were selected. Six photos were from the Parade and Graffiti Bridge albums, which only contributed one song each.
Also a disappontment, the collection does not include the #1 hit "Batdance", most likely due to licensing of the character 'Batman', All Music Guide supposes that "Batman [is] being unofficially written out of his discography" The album is recommended for the casual fan of Prince's earlier work. For a more exhaustive hits collection, The Hits/The B-Sides is recommended.
