The Suite Life of Zack & Cody is an American Emmy Award-nominated[1] children's television series that airs on the Disney Channel. This Disney Channel Original Series premiered on March 18, 2005, and was one of the first five shows available on the iTunes Store.[2]
The series stars Dylan and Cole Sprouse. They play Cody and Zack, identical twins, whose single mother, Carey, played by Kim Rhodes, is the headlining singer at the Tipton Hotel in Boston. They reside on the twenty-third floor of the five-star hotel as a provision of Carey's contract. The series has spawned two video games: one for the Nintendo DS entitled The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Tipton Trouble[3] and a titular release for the Game Boy Advance entitled The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Tipton Caper[4]. The show is co-created by Danny Kallis, who was a writer, producer, and director for the TV series, Smart Guy; and Jim Geoghan, who was a writer and producer for the TV series, Family Matters[5].
The series is the third Disney Channel Original to have more than 65 episodes, the first being That's So Raven and the second being Kim Possible. The show also airs on Saturday mornings on ABC. It was stated in the October 2007 issue of Disney Adventures magazine that the show is near its end, but that it would reach 100 episodes.

[edit] Production
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody was created by Danny Kallis and Jim Geoghan. The Production of the first season, which contained 26 episodes, began in fall 2004. The series premiered on March 18, 2005 and held the record of the highest-rated Disney Channel premiere (but was later beaten out by Hannah Montana in 2006 and Cory in the House in 2007). The series was so popular that Disney Channel ordered 39 episodes for a second season, which brought the total to 65, the usual limit of episodes Disney normally allows their series to go. During the second season, The Suite Life took part in a tri-episode crossover with fellow Disney Channel Original Series Hannah Montana and That's So Raven. The crossover, entitled That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana aired on July 28, 2006. The show is currently broadcasting its third and final season which began on June 23, 2007. The episodes of the third season fit more specific air date order than the previous seasons. Ashley Tisdale is absent in much of the season due to her commitment to High School Musical: The Concert and filming High School Musical 2. For this reason, Giovonnie Samuels was introduced as a recurring guest star to fill her place.[citation needed] Tisdale returned as Maddie in the episode "Team Tipton" after a long period of absences and short cameos.
In the December 2007 issue of Tiger Beat, it is mentioned that The Suite Life is not making any more episodes, however, there are some episodes that haven't aired yet. This was also featured in the October 2007 issue of Disney Adventures where it showed pictures from an episode guest starring The Cheetah Girls and Chris Brown.
[edit] Opening sequence
The theme song for The Suite Life of Zack and Cody is called "Here I Am" and was written by John Adair and Steve Hampton, who also wrote the theme song for Phil of the Future. It was sung by Loren Ellis and The Drew Davis Band. The original theme song was going to be "Grow Up" by Simple Plan. However, it was changed to "Here I Am" at the last minute.[citation needed]
[edit] Cast
[edit] Main
Zack Martin, played by Dylan Sprouse, is always getting into trouble. Zack is usually dressed in skater clothes, and is known as the less smart of the two. He has an obsession with girls, and has a crush on Maddie in the first season, though from the second season onward, little is said concerning whether he still has a crush on her. He occasionally sticks up for his brother, as seen in the episodes "Election", "Kept Man" and "Who's the Boss". He wants to be like his dad, Kurt. Other than in wood shop, he is known for not doing well in school. The teacher in that class said he was the star pupil. On a very rare occasion, he does think up something as smart as Cody most of the time. Zack has a more "cool" attitude and does not have as much knowledge or common sense as Cody, though he has been shown to be good in math when dealing with money. He and his brother are both huge fans of the Boston Red Sox, and hate the New York Yankees. He likes skateboarding, basketball, and soccer, all of which he is good at. He is always playing pranks on his twin brother and is a lot messier than Cody is.
Cody Martin, played by Cole Sprouse, is the more erudite, mature, and sensitive one of the twins, but he often plays along with his brother's crazy schemes. He shows less interest in girls than his brother, but he gets most of them. He does seem to flirt a lot with a girl named Barbara Brownstein, but they are constantly competing on who is smarter. He has shown a passion for baking, cleaning, and cooking, as well as mime and dance. Cody is sometimes easily frightened. When ever Cody is scared, he sometimes holds his "blanky", which is just a light-blue blanket. Other than woodshop, Cody is known for doing well in school. Cody also has astigmatism. Cody Martin is also the youngest of the twins. Zack is just 10 minutes older then him.
Maddie Fitzpatrick, played by Ashley Tisdale, is the teenage candy-counter girl at the Tipton Hotel, a cashier at the Cluck Bucket, manager on the Camp Tipton Daycare Center, counselor for her school's summer camp program, and has just recently returned from Antarctica as seen in "Team Tipton". While she comes from a lower class family, Maddie is very hard-working, outspoken, and intelligent. She attended private school at Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow, but now she is attending Cheevers High School with Zack, Cody, London, and Nia. Maddie is London's closest friend, though London often treats her like a servant, as in "Footloser", usually bribing her with money. Maddie also babysits Zack and Cody. Zack has a huge crush on her in Season 1, however the crush turns on and off during Seasons 2-3.
London Tipton, played by Brenda Song, is the daughter of Wilfred Tipton, the owner of the Tipton Hotels. Although the viewers never see Mr. Tipton, he is frequently mentioned, and when he is on set, he is hidden behind his 6-9 security guards. London is a dim-witted, spoiled, selfish, rich teenager with her own private suite at the Tipton Hotel in Boston, complete with a lot of closets (each with their own talking mirror) and a kitchen which takes up most of the floor. She transferred to the same private school as Maddie in the episode "Forever Plaid", due to poor attendance at her old school. In the episode "First Day of High School", London transfers to Zack & Cody's public school, due to being expelled from all of the private schools she had previously attended. She dislikes her step-moms and talks to Mr. Moseby and Maddie about her problems. When happy, she usually claps her hands repeatedly while saying her catchphrase, "Yay me!". Though it seems like London may lead the ultimate rich-girl life, her childhood was not perfect ( It took her 14 years to learn her "ABCs". In Season 3, she has a strong relationship with Lance the Lifeguard (Maddie's ex-boyfriend) due to swimming lessons, yet they break up when Lance has eyes for a mermaid named Wanda.
Marion Moseby, played by Phill Lewis, is the somewhat-uptight manager of the Tipton, who speaks with a wide vocabulary and an urbane vernacular, but is often annoyed by the twins' schemes. Though he acts as though he does not care about the boys, he actually has a great deal of affection for them. For example, when they went to the baseball game and he caught a ball for Cody, ultimately making him the most "hated man in Boston" (because catching the ball cost the Red Sox the game). In the episode "The Ghost of 613", it is revealed that he started out at the Tipton as a bellhop back in the 1970s. A running gag of the series is that Mr. Moseby often makes a fool of himself in front of people by doing something to make himself look bad in front of people (e.g.: hitting a baby doll that wouldn't stop crying against a chair when a woman holding a baby was walking by), or sarcastically saying something about himself that isn't real (which the patrons don't know).
Carey Martin, played by Kim Rhodes, is a headlining singer at the Tipton as well as the mother of Zack and Cody. She is a divorced mother, wise, kind, but somewhat aggressive towards the twins when they misbehave. She seems to love the twins a lot. Arwin Hawkhauser has a crush on her. She has a younger sister, and often dreams about George Clooney. Carey found her talent for singing by mistake when she was at a talent show doing stand-up comedy. She tries to keep the boys away from trouble, but she never prevails. Later in the second season, she changed her hair color from blonde to reddish-brown multiple times. She changes her hair color because she found a gray hair. As of Season 3, she has kept her brown hair and pulled her hair back in a small ponytail. When she is trying to teach the boys a lesson (or in some cases, other characters) she uses a story from her past, which is always boyfriend related, leading to Zack and Cody or the other characters groaning.

[edit] Settings
- Tipton Hotel
The Tipton Hotel is where Zack, Cody, Carey, and London all live, and where the majority of the other major characters in the series work. It is the main setting for the series, particularly the basement, the Tipton's 5-star restaurant, the lobby, the game room, the Martins' suite on the 23rd floor, and London Tipton's penthouse.
- Buckner Middle School
During the second season, the series has started using the younger characters' schools as locations. Zack and Cody attend Buckner Middle School and their school team is the Badgers as revealed in the episode "Election" and "Nurse Zack".
In the scene outside of the school where a few students are walking between two buildings shows "The Mall" area that's located in Lincoln Park High School, in Chicago, IL.
- Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow Catholic School
Maddie, Mary Margaret, and Corrie attend this private school during the first two seasons of the show, with London joining in Season Two. In Season Three, both Maddie and London attends the same public school as Zack and Cody.
- Paul Revere Mini Mart
Zack and Cody work for a man named Wayne Wormser at a local mini market. The Paul Revere Mini Mart is across the street from another mini mart with a patriotic name and theme, The Betsy Ross Stop and Shop.
The Betsy Ross Stop and Shop
The Betsy Ross Stop and Shop is the Paul Revere Mini Mart's competition.
- Other places in Boston
Scenes also take place in several other places in Boston, including Fenway Park, a movie theater, Maddie's home, the local shopping mall, a bowling alley, a miniature golf course, Mr. Mosbey's house seen in "The Hotel Inspector" and "Ask Zack", the Goose Lodge, as seen in 'Not So Suite Sixteen', and Liberty Park, the park across the street from the Tipton Hotel.
- Camp Heaven On Earth
A camp for female unruly misfits. All the cabins are poorly constructed. Maddie is working there for her summer job and is friends with the girls there although they prank her very often. They include Holly (first appeared in the episode, 'Have A Nice Trip') a little girl who gambles and hustles others by pretending to be horrible at a gamble at no stakes, then starts to win when the stakes increase (As Maddie told London "In half an hour she'll own the hotel!"), Amy, a horrible exaggerating liar and thief and Jasmine, a girl with anger management issues. Then there's Leah, a troubled "teen". She also played the bully, the cracker, in Hannah Montana. She's taller than Maddie, is 12 years old, brushes her teeth with her grandmother's finger and her favorite lipstick is "kiss me charcoal". At one time the girls used London's phone calls to sell to the press for luxuries but by the next episode they were gone.
- Cheevers High School
Where Zack, Cody, Maddie, London, and Nia attend along with other students including Bob and Mark. This setting was used in "Lip Synchin' in the Rain", "First Day of High School", and "Orchestra".
- The Stage
This serves as the location of the local staging of "High School Musical", which starred Tony and London (although Maddie provided London's "voice" during the songs) and was directed by a Mr. Blain who aspires to one day stage his one dental-themed musical titled "Floss". London auditioned with her theme song "London Tipton's Really Great" (sung to the tune of "London Bridge is Falling Down"). Zack is assigned to work backstage while Cody is cast in the role of Troy. Mr. Tipton apparently offered to back Mr. Blain's show in exchange for London being cast as Sharpay, although Maddie was the more accomplished singer. (A running joke in the episode is that Maddie often says she is told that she looks just like Sharpay, to which brought the other characters to disbelief despite both roles are played by Ashley Tisdale. The episode ends with Tony, Mr. Blain, London, Maddie, Zack and Cody performing the song "Floss", therefore having his dreams come true.
- The Mall
This is where Zack, Cody, and Bob cut school and Cody is in a music video. The mall is only seen in one episode, "What The Hey?"
