The Simpsons (season 4)

The Simpsons fourth season originally aired between September 1992 and May 1993, beginning on September 24, 1992. The season contained two hold-over episodes from the previous season's (8F) production line. At the end of the season, Sam Simon, Al Jean, Mike Reiss, Jon Vitti and most of the original writing staff left the show, causing more staff to be hired. The fourth season was released on DVD in Region 1 on June 15, 2004, Region 2 on August 2, 2004 and in Region 4 on August 25, 2004.
The fourth season included guest appearances by Jon Lovitz, Bob Hope, Lona Williams, Tom Jones, Sarah Gilbert, Pamela Reed, Adam West, Linda Ronstadt, Elizabeth Taylor, Leonard Nimoy, Phil Hartman, Marcia Wallace, Doctor Joyce Brothers, Brooke Sheilds, Barry White, David Crosby, Johnny Carson, Hugh Hefner, Bette Midler, Barry White, Luke Perry, Elizabeth Taylor and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

While Homer and Marge are enjoying their time away from the kids (with the exception of Maggie) during summer vacation, Bart and Lisa's promises of a fun summer at Kamp Krusty are broken when the director of the camp (Krusty, at Wimbledon) is replaced by his ferocious accountant, Mr. Black while the counselors are the three bullies from school, Dolph, Jimbo, and Kearney. Bart then is spurred to lead the campers into a rebellion after Mr. Black tricks the kids into thinking Krusty has returned. | |||||

After Marge wins a role in a musical production of A Streetcar Named Desire as Blanche DuBois (only because of Marge's deep-seated depression and anger when dealing with an uncaring Homer), she begins to struggle with a difficult part of shoving a glass bottle into Stanley Kowalski, later revealed to be because she feels he is compared exactly like Homer. While skipping Sunday's church services, Homer discovers the joy of staying home with having the house all to himself. Meanwhile, Marge and the kids experience a freezing and rambling sermon and end up having to walk home during a blizzard after the car's battery dies. Homer decides to start his very own religion customized for himself, despite Marge's continuing objections for giving up his faith. | |||||

Lisa's self-esteem breaks after she sees a crude drawing of herself at Springfield Elementary's fair. When Homer wins the Duff Beer raffle (the prize being to ride on the legendary Duff Blimp), he sacrifices the ticket for the money in order to get Lisa entered into a beauty pageant, though when Lisa wins (after the previous contestant was hospitalized), Lisa notices the ugliness of being Springfield's beauty queen.Guest stars: Bob Hope and Lona Williams. | |||||

At Springfield Elementary's Parent Teacher night, Mrs. Krabappel tells Homer and Marge about Bart's behaviour during a conference. When she quotes that one day, Bart could even become Chief Justice of the Supreme Court if he sets his mind to it, Homer does everything he can do to punish Bart. When everything he does goes awry because of his laziness, Marge convinces Homer he is being soft on Bart, and Homer bans him from seeing the upcoming popular: "Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie". | |||||

When their house on 742 Evergreen Terrace literally begins sinking into the ground, the Simpson family discovers they are bankrupt, Marge decides to earn extra money to repair the house foundation by working at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, only for Mr. Burns to fall deeply in love with her. In the result, he begins to seduce her. Meanwhile, in a parody of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Bart continues faking sick to get out of taking a test. | |||||

Homer's continuously annoying antics frustrates Mrs. Sylvia Winfield, who moves out after becoming embarrassed. A new family moves in next door to the Simpsons, the Powers, where the daughter, Laura Powers, becomes the object of Bart's affection. After Bart discovers she has a boyfriend, he begins having nightmares. Meanwhile, Homer wages war against Captain Horatio McCallister's seafood restaurant The Frying Dutchman, for falsely advertising their "all-you-can-eat" buffet.Guest stars: Sarah Gilbert and Pamela Reed. | |||||

After demolishing and wrecking both his and Marge's family cars during a snowstorm, Homer buys a snow plow to pay off the damages and starts a business plowing driveways. It is a huge success, and after becoming inspired by Homer's success, Barney Gumble starts a rival company and steps in as Springfield's favourite snow-plower, causing Homer's business to dry up. Everyone soon begins to love Barney and all the celebrities he brings with him, though Homer blindly turns towards revenge. | |||||

Due to his many years of eating unhealthy "fatty foods", Homer needs to have a triple bypass surgery. He has to choose between the $40,000 operation set by Doctor Julius Hibbert, which he can't afford or the $129.95 operation by Doctor Nick Riviera. When he chooses the cheaper surgery, Homer is convinced he is indeed, going to die. Meanwhile, the Springfield Police's bumbling antics and behaviour are captured on an episode of COPS. | |||||

After Mr. Burns is caught storing his excess nuclear waste inside Springfield Park's trees, he is ordered to pay the town $3 million. When the charismatic Lyle Lanley visits Springfield, he convinces the town to use the $3 million to buy one of his monorails, also hiring Homer as the monorail conductor. When Marge's Great Aunt Gladys Bouvier dies, she, Patty, and Selma attend the reading of her will, where during the video, she tells Patty and Selma not to die lonely and miserable like she did. Though Patty doesn't care, Selma decides that she wants a baby. After Homer eats a spoiled hoagie, he becomes dreadfully ill, causing Marge to stay home and take care of him while Selma is put to the test by taking Bart and Lisa to the Duff Gardens theme park, which she struggles through. | |||||

After leaving Bart alone at soccer practice, Homer's inept care for Bart prompts Bart to get "a Bigger Brother" after feeling neglected by Homer. When Homer meets Bart's Bigger Brother Tom, he becomes enraged and slightly isolated, until he decides for revenge and gets a replacement son named Pepe. Soon, Bart and Homer begin using various methods with their partners to spite one another. Meanwhile, Lisa becomes addicted to calling a 1-900 number featuring a pretty-boy celebrity named Cory. | |||||

It's Valentine's Day, and everyone receives a card -- everyone but Ralph Wiggum, who, out of pity, receives one card from Lisa (the card reading: "I choo-choo-choose you") and has a picture of a train, much to Ralph's delight. Ralph immediately cheers up, and develops a romantic interest in his classmate. After Lisa begins getting frustrated with Ralph, her attempt to gently tell Ralph that she is not interested ends up exposing the truth live on TV during Krusty's 29 Anniversary Special. | |||||

When the police catch Homer driving drunk in a car, Homer passes a police-oriented field sobriety test, but fails a breathalyzer test. Homer is soon arrested for drunken driving, license is revoked, and must attend traffic school and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. After much reluctance, Homer agrees to Marge's suggestion of giving up drinking beer for an entire month. Meanwhile, Bart demolishes Lisa's science project of a steroid-pumped tomato, prompting Lisa to make a science project pitting Bart against a hamster.Guest stars: Phil Hartman and Marcia Wallace. | |||||

It's April Fool's Day and Homer is playing pranks upon Bart through the day. Bart, angered by the numerous amount of tricks he has fallen for, plans the ultimate revenge on Homer by shaking a can of beer so hard that it causes an explosion. While Homer ends up in a coma, the family reminisces about their past adventures including when Lisa got her pony, Bart's rebellion against Nelson, and when the Simpson family got lost. | |||||

After watching a terrible lackluster episode of Itchy and Stratchy, Bart and Lisa decide they can be better writers, so they decide to become cartoon writers, but when their first submission is rejected due to their age, they resubmit their mansucript under the name of Abraham Simpson -- their grandfather. Meanwhile, Homer and Marge revisit a High School reunion, which prompts Homer to admit that he never officially graduated because he failed a science class. At the reunion, Homer's awards are revoked, causing Homer to go to night school to make up the lost credits on the class he never passed -- remedial science. | |||||

Springfield's annual Holiday arrives: Whacking Day, a day specifically designed to drive snakes into the town's square and club them to death. When most Springfiedians celebrate the local holiday, Lisa is appalled at the upcoming celebration, but her protests fall on deaf ears. Lisa soon plots on convincing the town about the nightmare of Whacking Day. Meanwhile, Bart is expelled from school after he runs down Superintendent Chalmers, and after a long search, he is home-schooled by Marge. | |||||

An ill worker from Japan coughs into a box of Juice Looseners, which are to be shipped to Springfield. When many of the residents purchase the Looseners, Springfield is hit with the dreaded Osaka Flu, causing many of the town to fall ill. Due to the exhaustion from having to look after the rest of her ill family, Marge accidentally forgets to pay for Grampa's bottle of bourbon when shopping at the Kwik-E-Mart. Marge is soon arrested for shoplifting and is sent to 30 days at Springfield's Woman Prison.Guest star: David Crosby. | |||||

When a mysterious new word, "Gabbo", begins popping up in various areas around Springfield, it's revealed to be a new children's show, The Gabbo Show, about the host, being a dummy named Gabbo (controlled by ventriloquist Arthur Crandall) who continuously amazes everyone on stage. However, when the show begins threatening Krusty's Krusty the Klown show in the ratings, it begins competing for its timeslot. When Krusty's show is finally cancelled, Bart and Lisa are hired to round up Krusty's celebrity friends for a televised comeback special. | |||||
