Filmfare Awards South are the oldest and most prominent film awards given for Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam films and Kannada films in India. They are given annually to honour the best talents and provide encouragement and incentive to the South Indian film industry.

The Filmfare awards were first introduced in 1990. Readers of Filmfare Magazine were polled to decide the winners, and over 10,000 readers spread throughout South India participated in the polls; trophies were given to winners of the popular vote. In the first awards function, held on 21st March 1990, there was a bust-up about actors claiming prizes but it was resolved.In Kollywood Kamal Haasan, Malayalam Mammootty and Tollywood chiranjeevi has received most of the filmfare awards.These three are the famous actors in south india.

  • The Kollywood Paraatai was the original name of the award ceremony, named after Kollywood.[citation needed]
  • To celebrate the 10th year of the awards the statues were made in silver.
