Swansea Urban Area
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Swansea Urban Area is an area in South Wales used for population monitoring purposes. It includes the city of Swansea, nearby Clydach, Pontardawe, Neath and Port Talbot. It however does not include rural areas of Swansea such as the Gower.[1]
It is different to other Welsh urban areas in that it includes towns and villages quite far from the main urban centre. The Cardiff and Newport urban areas only include the immediate surrounding urban area.
A 2004 estimate gave Swansea's population as 169,880 and the urban area population as 270,506, placing it behind the Cardiff Urban Area with 349,706 (with the Cardiff City population as 323,000) but in front of the Newport Urban Area with 140,100.
