Survivor Series 2007 was the twenty-first annual Survivor Series professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It took place on November 18 2007 at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Florida and starred talent from all three brands.[2][3] The official theme song was "Tick Tick Boom" by The Hives.[4] This event was notable for taking place 10 years after the infamous Montreal Screwjob, that occurred in Montreal, Canada.[5][6]

The main event was a Hell in a Cell match for the World Heavyweight Championship between Batista and The Undertaker, which Batista won after Edge interfered.[7] The main matches on the undercard were Randy Orton versus Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship, and a 5 on 4 Survivor Series match between Team Triple H (Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio and Kane) and Team Umaga (Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, Montel Vontavious Porter, Finlay and Big Daddy V).[8][9]

The main feud heading into Survivor Series was on the SmackDown! brand, with Batista and The Undertaker continuing their rivalry over the World Heavyweight Championship, which began after the Undertaker won the 2007 Royal Rumble match and challenged Batista for the title at WrestleMania 23. At that pay-per-view, Undertaker defeated Batista for the championship, extending his WrestleMania winning streak to 15-0.[10] The two faced each other at Backlash 2007 in a Last Man Standing match and then on the May 11 2007 episode of SmackDown! in a Steel Cage match, which both ended in a draw.[11][12] Undertaker lost the title to Edge, before The Great Khali won the title in July.[13][14] Batista won the title back at Unforgiven defeating Khali and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat match.[15] Batista and Undertaker most recently faced each other at Cyber Sunday, with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Batista won the contest after performing two Batista Bombs on The Undertaker to retain the title.[16] On the November 2 edition of SmackDown!, The Undertaker asked Batista for a rematch, which was accepted by the champion. But the Phenom then revealed that the match would take place inside a Hell in a Cell.[17] On the November 9 edition of SmackDown!, Undertaker defeated Khali in a No Holds Barred match,[18] and the week after Batista defeated Mark Henry in a No Disqualification match. After the match, Undertaker appeared on the TitanTron and stared down Batista.

The main feud on the RAW brand was Shawn Michaels versus Randy Orton, with the two battling over Orton's WWE Championship. At the previous pay-per-view, Cyber Sunday, Michaels was chosen by the WWE fans via voting online to face Orton for the title, but Orton retained his title by getting himself disqualified.[19] The next night, on the October 29 2007 edition of RAW, Michaels was granted his request for a rematch against Orton at Survivor Series. Later in the night, the feud between Triple H and Vince McMahon continued with McMahon putting Triple H in a Handicap match against Umaga and Orton. Michaels interfered to help Triple H, attacking Umaga and Orton.[20] Michaels and Triple H teamed up on the November 5 2007 edition of RAW, reuniting as D-Generation X for one night only against Umaga and Orton. DX won the contest, after Michaels performed a Superkick to Orton.[21] The two met in a "Face to Face Confrontation" on the November 12 2007 edition of RAW, with McMahon being the enforcer. During the confronation, Orton attacked Michaels and attempted to boot him in the head, only to be stopped in his tracks by McMahon. Orton then RKO'd Michaels.

The main feud on the ECW brand was John Morrison, The Miz and CM Punk battling over the ECW Championship. The feud between Morrison and Punk began at Vengeance: Night of Champions in June, when Morrison (then known as Johnny Nitro) defeated Punk to win the vacant ECW Championship.[22] The two faced each other again at The Great American Bash and SummerSlam, with Morrison winning both matches.[23][24] Morrison dropped the title to Punk on the September 4 2007 edition of ECW, with Punk winning via pinfall.[25] The Miz joined the feud in the weeks leading into Cyber Sunday,[26][27] as one of the three choices the fans could vote for via WWE's official website, along with Morrison and Big Daddy V to face Punk for his ECW Championship.[28] Punk retained the title at Cyber Sunday against The Miz, who won the fans' vote.[29] Morrison defeated The Miz on the October 30 2007 edition of ECW and in the process won an opportunity to face Punk the following week with the ECW Championship on the line.[30] Miz interfered in the title match, costing Morrison the contest. Morrison and Miz headed into Survivor Series as WWE Tag Team Champions, as they won the titles the Friday before.

The first match that aired, was the encounter of John Morrison, The Miz, and CM Punk over the ECW Championship.[31][32] In a back and forth match between the three combatants, Punk would retain his ECW Championship after delivering a GTS (Go To Sleep) on The Miz and pinning him for the win, in a match that lasted less than eight minutes long.[3][33][1] The next match was an interpromotional 10-diva tag team match between the team of Kelly Kelly, Torrie Wilson, Mickie James, Maria, and Michelle McCool against the team of Victoria, Beth Phoenix, Melina, Layla, and Jillian Hall.[32] Phoenix's team controlled the match until James was tagged in and performed a Kiss of death on Melina, giving her team the win in under five minutes.[34][35]

The third match was a tag team bout for the World Tag Team Championship between the champions, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch and the team of Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes.[36][32] Back and forth action between the two teams in the start of the match, until Rhodes tagged himself into the match getting control over Murdoch. Holly would then clothesline Cade ,and himself, to the outside of the ring. This left Rhodes by himself allowing Cade to then perform a sun set flip powerbomb and pin Rhodes, thus Cade retaining the World Tag Team Championship for his team.[3][34]

Next was Survivor Series match with Team Triple H (Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio and Kane) against Team Umaga (Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, Montel Vontavious Porter, Finlay and Big Daddy V).[37] Team Triple H was at a 5-on-4 disadvantage, as Matt Hardy was unable to compete due to injury. Kane was the first superstar eliminated, after Big Daddy V performed an elbow drop on Kane. Rey Mysterio was then eliminated by Umaga after a Samoan Spike. MVP was then eliminated after a Twist of Fate by Jeff Hardy. Mr. Kennedy was eliminated next after Big Daddy V accidentally hit an elbow drop on Kennedy, allowing Triple H to cover him for the elimination. Big Daddy V was the third eliminated member of Team Umaga, after Hardy and Triple H performed a Double DDT on Big Daddy V. Finlay was the next member eliminated off Team Umaga, after a Pedigree from Triple H. Umaga was the final member, and captain, eliminated off Team Umaga, after a Pedigree from Triple H and a Swanton Bomb from Hardy, thus Hardy and Triple H becoming the Survivors of the match, and earning the win for Team Triple H.[32][33]

The fifth match was a bout between The Great Khali and Hornswoggle in a David vs Goliath match.[38] Before Hornswoggle wrestled Khali, he would attack Khali's translator, Runjin Singh. Hornswoggle would then try to attack Khali with a shillelagh, but would end up being slapped down to the ring mat. Then afterwards, Khali would attempt to lock a vise grip on Hornswoggle, Finlay would emerge and attack Khali with his own shillelagh, disqualifying Hornswoggle and giving the win to Khali.[32][33] Next was the encounter between Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship.[39] In this stipulated match, Michaels was banned from using his signature move, Sweet Chin Music, while Orton was unable to get disqualified and if either men broke those stipulations they would have lost the WWE Championship match.[39] As Michaels was unable to use his signature move, he would attempt many submission moves such as the Sharpshooter and the Ankle lock. Orton however would escape the many submission holds, and would hit a successful RKO, then pinning Michaels to retain his WWE Championship.[3][33] After the match, Orton pleaded Michaels to say that Orton was the future of the WWE, however Michaels would answer with a Superkick on Orton.[40]

The main event was the encounter of Batista and The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Hell in a Cell match.[41] Back and forth action between the two superstars throughout the match. Batista however gained control over Undertaker by putting him through a table, and delivering a Spinebuster on Undertaker onto the steel steps. Undertaker fought back into the match, eventually delivering a Tombstone Piledriver, which Batista kicked out of. Undertaker then delivered a second Tombstone, this time onto the steel steps. As the referee made the count for the pin, Edge, dressed as a cameraman, pulled the referee out of the ring. After hitting Undertaker with a camera Edge then delivered a con-chair-to to Undertaker with a steel chair onto the steel steps and dragged Batista onto Undertaker for the pin, as the referee regained consciousness, thus retaining the World Heavyweight Championship.[32][34]

[edit] Aftermath

The following night on RAW, Randy Orton had proclaimed that he defeated all there is to beat, referring to victories over John Cena, Triple H and Shawn Michaels, and that it was time for the torch to be passed to him.[42] However, Chris Jericho returned to WWE after a two year hiatus, interrupting Orton during his orchestrated "passing of the torch" ceremony. Jericho revealed his intentions to reclaim the WWE Championship in order to "save" WWE from Randy Orton. Jericho then laid a challenge to Orton with the WWE Championship on the line, which Orton had not accepted.[42] The following week on RAW, Jericho cost Orton a match against Ric Flair to further convince him to accept the challenge.[43] After RAW went off the air, Orton accepted the challenge.[44]

On the November 23 edition of SmackDown!, General Manager, Vickie Guerrero, "punished" Edge for his interference in the World Heavyweight Championship match between Batista and The Undertaker at the Survivor Series, by making him the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, before revealing she had begun a romantic relationship with Edge and had facilitated his "plan" to regain the title.[42] Later in the night, as she and Edge were in the ring, The Undertaker Tombstoned Vickie after Edge ran out of the ring.[42]
