Sun Lakes State Park

These caves were historically used by the Plateau Indians for storage and for shelter. They were created when whirlpool-like floodwaters from the Ice Age Floods sucked rocks out of the basalt walls. (Image ©2003 Teri J. Pieper, courtesy of byways.org)

Sun Lakes State Park overlooks Dry Falls, a 400-foot deep canyon near Coulee City, Washington, USA that was formed by an ice age flood. Recreation opportunities include fishing, swimming, boating, horse rentals, and a golf course. There is an interpretive center on geologic formations. The park is located in Grant County, Washington, along the Grand Coulee.
