State Road 80 (also known as Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County and Palm Beach Boulevard in Lee County) is a 132-mile (211 km) route linking US 1 in West Palm Beach and US 41 in Fort Myers. As one of the few roads crossing the Everglades, this route is very important. Due to high traffic volume, the Florida Department of Transportation has begun construction on a limited-access highway from Interstate 95 (SR 9) to US 441 (SR 7) in Palm Beach County, and a controlled-access highway from US 441 to Interstate 75 outside Fort Myers.

[edit] Construction status

Currently, most of the main stretch of controlled-access highway has been completed, from between Loxahatchee and the northbound US 27 (SR 25) split-off west of Clewiston. Another controlled-access stretch is complete from between Interstate 75 and Alva. A small Freeway portion is open between the Interstate 95 and the Australian-Congress interchange near the Palm Beach International Airport. There is still a crucial link between US 27 and Alva left to be completed on the main stretch of highway. In West Palm Beach, the Freeway project has yet to be completed between Australian-Congress and Loxahatchee.
