[edit] Early life

Miller was born in New York City on December 28, 1981 and moved to England with her family as a child, where she attended the Heathfield school in Ascot, Berkshire and later studied for a year at the Lee Strasberg Institute with luminaries such as Will Lee and Koni Summer in New York City.

Her father, Edwin Miller, is an American banker turned Chinese-art dealer. Her mother, Josephine "Jo" Miller, who is South African, ran Lee Strasberg's acting academy in London[2] and was once David Bowie's secretary. Her parents parted when she was six years old, and her father subsequently married the English interior designer Kelly Hoppen; they divorced after 15 years,[3] and Ed Miller recently remarried for the fourth time.

Miller has a sister, Savannah, who is a fashion designer; two half-brothers, Charles and Stephen, and a former stepsister, Natasha Corrett (the daughter of Hoppen).

Prior to her professional acting career, Miller worked as a photographic model. She signed with Tandy Anderson, and modeled for Coca-Cola, Italian Vogue, Prada and the 2003 Pirelli Calendar.

Miller signed a two-year contract with Pepe Jeans London; the jeans ad campaign first appeared in magazines March 2006.[4]

Miller posed for Vanity Fair magazine's 2006 "Hollywood Issue" topless and smoking a cigarette.

She appeared on the December 2004 and the February 2006 cover of British Vogue, and will appear on the September 2007 cover of U.S. Vogue

[edit] Acting

In her early career, Miller performed in several New York City plays including The Striker, Independence, and Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella's Cigarettes & Chocolate.[5]

Miller had a recurring role in Simon West's television action drama series Keen Eddie (2003-4).

In 2005, Miller made her West End debut as Celia in Shakespeare's As You Like It alongside Tegan Hull, Dominic West and Reece Shearsmith. She played the role of Rosalind for one performance, when Hull, the actress playing the lead, fell ill.

Miller designed limited edition T-shirts or vests for the 'Little Tee Campaign' for Breast Cancer Care which donates money for breast cancer research.[7]

In 2006, it was announced that Miller would design a fashion capsule for Pepe Jeans; the project was later expanded to become a complete fashion label. Called Twenty8Twelve, it gets its name from Sienna Miller's date of birth and is financially backed by Pepe Jeans.[8] Miller designed the label's first range with her sister Savannah. The designing duo presented pieces from the range in May 2007. The 80-piece line premiered on July 26, 2007 in New York City. It will debut at Neiman Marcus September 8, 2007, and at Bergdorf Goodman soon.[9]

[edit] Personal life

[edit] Relationships

Miller's relationship with Jude Law was frequently featured in the entertainment press. Christmas Day of 2004, they became engaged. However, July 18, 2005, Law issued a public apology to Miller for having an affair with Daisy Wright, the nanny of his children by his former wife (actress Sadie Frost). At the same time, Miller was rumored to be having an affair with Law's friend, Daniel Craig.[10][11] Despite attempts to salvage their relationship, Miller and Law separated, then reunited briefly in 2006, before separating again. She is now said to be dating Welsh actor Rhys Ifans.[12]

[edit] Charity work

She has also supported Breast Cancer Haven's Lend a Hand, Raise a Grand Appeal which asks people to raise £1,000 in one year for Breast Cancer Haven, which runs centers offering a free program for support, information and complementary therapies to anyone affected by the disease. She encouraged others to take part, saying "The Lend a Hand, Raise a Grand appeal is your chance to support a fantastic charity. It is a chance for you to make a difference -- a little bit of effort goes a long way with this unique initiative. We are all affected by breast cancer so please, please support it." Miller is also an ambassador for the Starlight Children's Foundation.

[edit] Controversy

While on location in Pennsylvania, working on The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Miller made derogatory comments about the city, referring to Pittsburgh as "Shitsburgh", in an interview for Rolling Stone magazine, on newsstands October 6, 2006.[13] She later apologized, noting that her father grew up in Western Pennsylvania only 85 miles from the city.[14]

[edit] Awards

In October 2007, Miller was awarded an EMA Futures Award for helping to raise public awareness about the problem of global warming [15] and in November 2007 she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female - Lead performance for her appearance in Interview. She has also been nominated for an Empire Award in 2005 for her role in Alfie, and a Teen Choice Award in 2003, for Choice TV Breakout Star - Female for her performance in Keen Eddie.
