[edit] Career
[edit] Early life
Before starting off his career as an actor, Kapoor worked in several music videos and ads, including one with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, post Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In 1999, he was seen in the hit movie Taal as a background dancer with Aishwarya Rai in the song Kahiin Aag Lage Lag Jawe.
[edit] Actor
Kapoor made his debut with the moderately successful Ishq Vishk (2003)[2] opposite actress Amrita Rao and won a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance in the film. In 2004, he starred in two more films: Fida, a thriller co-starring his ex-girlfriend, Kareena Kapoor and Fardeen Khan as well as Dil Maange More, a romantic comedy alongside Soha Ali Khan, Tulip Joshi, and Ayesha Takia. Both films didn't do well as expected[3] but he received positive reviews for his performance in the former.[4]
In 2005, he had a setback in his career when all three of his films, Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi, Deewane Huye Pagal, and Shikhar failed to do well at the box office.[5] However, his performance in the latter was praised[6] and he received his first Star Screen Best Actor Award nomination.
In 2006, things began turning around as he received his first box office success since his debut with the multi-starrer, 36 China Town. Despite mixed reviews the comic-thriller became an above-average success.[7] Shortly after the release of 36 China Town, Kapoor's second release, Chup Chup Ke (2006) released, which was an average success.[7] Following that year, he was seen in Sooraj R. Barjatya's blockbuster Vivah, which became his biggest commercial success so far.[8] His performance was well appreciated with audiences and critics alike,[9] and the movie became one of the biggest grossers of 2006.[7]
During the summer of 2006, Kapoor embarked on his first world tour, the Rockstars Concert, along with other Bollywood stars, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham, Esha Deol, Mallika Sherawat and Zayed Khan.
Ahmed Khan's Fool and Final, his first release in 2007, opened to average reviews and did below average business at the box office. However, his latest release, the romantic comedy Jab We Met opposite Kareena Kapoor proved to be a major success in India and U.K.; his performance won him critical acclaim, earning Kapoor his third Star Screen Award nomination for the third consecutive year.
He will soon be seen in two upcoming films - Nagesh Kukunoor's Tasveer with Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Takia and Aziz Mirza's Lucky Charm opposite Vidya Balan.
