IMDb profile

Arabian Nights (re-issued on VHS and DVD as Scooby-Doo in Arabian Nights and also Scooby-Doo! Arabian Nights) is an animated television movie produced by Hanna-Barbera and premiered on TBS in 1994. The film is an adaptation of The Book of One Thousand and One Nights.

[edit] Plot

Scooby and Shaggy are hired as royal food-tasters by a young Arab prince a job offer they can't refuse. When they eat everything, the prince gets mad and has his guards chase them, until he finds Shaggy disguised in drag as a harem girl. In order to make the prince fall asleep, Shaggy tells him two classic stories: Aladdin (reimagined into a female character named Ali-adin, with Yogi and Boo-Boo Bear as her genies) and Sindbad the Sailor (played by Magilla Gorilla).

[edit] Trivia

  • This was the final cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera to feature it's famous legends, Yogi and Boo-Boo Bear, Magilla Gorilla, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Rogers outside of cameo appearances, also the final time Don Messick did the voice of Scooby-Doo.
  • This special is drawn, animated, and musically scored like a classic Warner Bros. cartoon, slightly resembling an episode of Tiny Toon Adventures or Animaniacs, rather than the regular Hanna-Barbera style. It even uses the same music as Animaniacs and does not use the classic Hanna-Barbera sound effects as often as the classic shows did.
