[edit] Background

San Diego Christian College was founded by Dr. Tim F. LaHaye, pastor of the former Scott Memorial Baptist Church of San Diego and co-author of the fictional Left Behind series of books.

In January 1970, Dr. LaHaye, Dr. Art Peters and Dr. Henry M. Morris, discussed the need for a Christian college on the west coast where studies could be developed within the framework of biblical creationism. The Institute for Creation Research(ICR) was established as a part of Christian Heritage College. In 1981 ICR was reorganized as an independent entity.[1] Its current president is John Morris, son of founder Henry M. Morris.

During 1970-71 freshman and sophomore classes began, with junior and senior classes added during the next two years. The first graduates of SDCC were awarded degrees in June of 1973.

[edit] Accreditation

San Diego Christian College is accredited by the Senior Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

On June 23, 2006, the WASC reviewed San Diego Christian College and had a "series of concerns regarding the functioning of the college."[2]

The most recent commission on February 2, 2007 found the college had taken a number of significant and positive steps in addressing its past concerns. The next visit will be in the spring of 2008 to review the colleges progress.
