Sainikpuri lies to the North East of the Twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is a cooperative housing society for retired defense personnel. Sainikpuri actually started off as a housing society for Army Officers, but now has houses which belong to other defense services as well as a few civilians. Late Brig M. K Rao and Late Brig S. N Docca (former commandant of EME School now (MCEME) were the first few to have got plots in the society and had a vision that the colony would grow into an elite area. The society is well planned and maintained. Roads are well made and numbered. There is a common auditorium / mess which offers a variety of services for the people living in Sainikpuri. These services include a gymnasium, community hall as well as get together in the form of festival "melas" and the occasional tambolas.

Following the well organised layout of Sainikpuri, other residential colonies have come up, on the North of Sainikpuri. Madhavpuri, Osmania teachers Colony, Saibaba Officers Colony, Eashwaripuri colony are the few to name.

The abundancy of water and greenery has attracted new settlers.

New shopping area has developed in 5th Avenue, plus convenient stores such as Spencers, Subiksha and Trinetra have opened their outlets.

Now considered a posh area, old buildings are slowly giving way to multistoried apartments and beyond the reach of Higher Middleclass to acquire any living space in this area.
