Sai Paranjpye

Sai Paranjpye is a woman director/writer from India. She was born on 19 March 1938 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh to Youra Sleptzoff, a Russian general and Shakuntala Paranjpye[1]. She has directed many award winning movies including Sparsh, Katha, Chashme-Baddoor and Disha, which won an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Her father, Youra Sleptzoff, was a painter and a son of Russian general who died in battle. Sai Paranjpye was brought up by her mother and her maternal grandfather, Sir R.P. Paranjpye, India's first Senior Wrangler (Cambridge), a renowned educationalist, public servant and India's first high commissioner to Australia. She started writing at the age of eight.[1] Sai served twice as the Chairperson of Children's Film Society, Government of India.

She started her career in the All India Radio, Pune. She also worked as producer for the Delhi Doordarshan Television.
