Moondram Pirai (1983) is a Tamil feature film directed by Balu Mahendra. The cast includes Kamal Hassan, Sridevi, Silk Smitha and Poornam Vishwanathan. The film earned strong critical plaudits upon release, and was also commercially successful. Sridevi's performance was particularly well received, and was expected to win the National Film Award for Best Actress in 1983 for her role in the film, but Kamal Hassan silently won National Film Award for Best Actor award. The film's score and soundtrack were composed by Ilaiyaraaja, with songs sung by K.J. Yesudas and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. The soundtrack was also well received.

The Hindi version of this film is called Sadma.

A young girl (Sridevi) meets with an accident, suffers brain damage and loses her memory. Through devious circumstances she is sold into prostitution but is saved by a kind hearted teacher (Kamal Hassan) who takes her to the country in order to protect her. Eventually the teacher falls in love with the girl, she regains her memory up until the time of her accident and has no recollection of the teacher or his kindness.
