Rocky George (born January 9, 1964 in Culver City, California [1]) is an American heavy metal guitarist best known for being the lead guitarist of Suicidal Tendencies from 1984 to the band's first breakup in 1995. Since then he also played with 40 Cycle Hum and Cro-Mags. He has been a member of Fishbone since 2003.
Rocky had played in a few local bands before joining Suicidal Tendencies in 1985, replacing John Nelson, who replaced the first album guitarist Grant Estes. His debut with the band was Join the Army. George is largely considered responsible for moving Suicidal Tendencies away from their hardcore punk roots into a more thrash oriented territory. He is also responsible for Robert Trujillo joining the band, who was a high school friend of his (at Culver City High School).
Rocky has used Ibanez guitars almost exclusively for years (particularly the RG series and Universe 7-strings). He is still endorsed by Ibanez. Despite rumors, however, Rocky did not design the RG series (although he does, as mentioned earlier, play them a lot and has a custom RG). He is also a long time user of Mesa Boogie amplifiers.
