Razor & Tie is a New York based corporation founded in 1990 by Cliff Chenfeld and Craig Balsam. The company encompasses a record label which is distributed through a major label, a home video company, and a media buying company.[1]

Early in their existence, the label concentrated on "greatest hits" compilations by otherwise unanthologized artists (Ivory Joe Hunter, Jules Shear, et al.). Razor & Tie is perhaps best known for its Kidz Bop compilations, which take the latest pop hits and rework them as sung by children.[2] Other products include albums by Angelique Kidjo, Corey Smith, All That Remains, Kelly Sweet, Dave Barnes, EndeverafteR, Ryan Shaw, Dar Williams, Tina Sugandh, The Clarks, Danko Jones, 40 Below Summer, Brand New, Donnie Iris, Steve Hofstetter, Seven Nations, Sonia Dada, John Lithgow, and Twisted Sister, and videos such as the Sweating in the Spirit workout series and various DVD reincarnations of the For Dummies series. The company will also release the soundtrack for the film Alvin and the Chipmunks.
