[edit] Reviews
Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag opened to universally negative reviews from the press and the moviegoers. The film was criticzed in almost every department. The performances, the transportation of the story from rural north to Mumbai, the action sequences and the dialogues. Nisha Kothari and Ajay Devgan drew the ire of critics with their performances the worst received. The only actor who received a few good reviews was Amitabh Bachchan, who despite an over the top performance, was the only reason people could sit through the film. Despite the presence of a seasoned actor like Mohanlal, the role of the vengeful Policeman (played by Sanjeev Kumar in the original) didn't go down well with the audiences. Many critics questioned the need to remake the 1975 original. The film finally bombed at the box office in spite of the months of hype and anticipation.
The film can only be remembered for the hype it created, the box office debacle it became and Urmila Matondkar's sensuous performance in Mehbooba.
