[edit] Aggressive policing
In July 2007, a federal lawsuit was filed against the Village of Quogue by a local resident. In January 2006, two officers, John Donovan and Joseph Dolomite, arrested local shop-owner and resident Barbara Williams for not notifying the police immediately after she crashed her car just outside her house. When a breathalyser test was requested, she refused. Despite her pleas for medical attention, the two male police officers handcuffed her broken wrist, which later required surgery. All charges against the woman were dropped.
The suit also cites the marriage of Mayor George Motz and Village Justice Kittric Motz as a conflict of interest, although the arrangement is not barred by law. Village Justice Kittric Motz was recently re-elected in an uncontested race.
