Purasaiwalkam or Purasai is one of the important places in Chennai. Known as busy Shopping Center, Purasaiwalkam is basically a residential place. Today this place has grown into a huge shopping complex. Purasai is very much nearer to both the Chennai Railway stations, Chennai Central and Egmore.

Thana Street one of the busiest streets in Chennai is the heart of Purasawalkam. Thana Street is famous for its Jeweleries and pharmacies. Thana Street also comprises a grocery market which is kept busy throughout§ the day.

Abirami Mega Mall is one of the main attractions in Purasaiwalkam, which is a cineplex. It comprises four main theaters and many shopping outlets.

Madhar Sha, Sree Krishna, Textile India, Ranjanas are the main Textile showrooms found here.

B.Venkateswara Rao & Co is one of the oldest(1926) and famous grocery stores on the high road. [1]

SCHOOLS

Purasaiwalkam is the heart of the Chennai Education. One can find number of Institutions in and around Purasai. Some of the pioneer Institutions are Anita Methodist , Bentick , St. Pauls , St Mathias, Sathya , Doveton Corrie, Seventh-Day Adventist, CSI Ewarts, Alagappa, CSI Bains, MCTM and many more.

Purasai also contains a huge Lutheran Church by name Adaikalanathar Church operated under the Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church( TELC). St. Paul'c Church, St. Mathias Church, Emmanuel Methodist, Tamil Methodist and Apostlic Church are some of the Churches present there.

Gangadeeshwarar Temple is a one of the oldest temples in Chennai.

Purasaiwalkam is a perfect mixture of commercial and residential hub.
