Possession Sound

Possession Sound is part of the Puget Sound system and is located between Whidbey Island and the city of Everett, Washington. The sound also has an island named Gedney island (nicknamed Hat Island). The Snohomish River flows into Port Gardner Bay which is part of Possession Sound. The sound is a popular spot for sailboating.
Possession Sound was named by George Vancouver. On June 4, 1792, Vancouver landed near the present site of Everett and celebrated the birthday of George III by holding a ceremony claiming possession of the land of "New Georgia" for Britain.[1]
