Popovo (Bulgarian: Попово, from поп, pop, meaning "priest", and the placename suffix -ovo, literally "the priest's village") is a town in eastern Bulgaria, part of Targovishte Province. Popovo was first mentioned in an Ottoman tax register of 1555.
