A peninsula is a piece of land that is bordered on three sides by water. A peninsula can also be a headland, cape, island promontory, bill, point, or spit.[1]

Michigan is very distinguishable for its mitten-shaped Lower Peninsula which includes The Thumb, Fountain Point, the Leelanau Peninsula, and Old Mission Peninsula. The northern half of Michigan is called the Upper Peninsula and contains the Keweenaw Peninsula, the Garden Peninsula and the Stonington Peninsula.
