• Palestine is a historic geographical region in the Middle East, on the southern east coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

• The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) is an interim administrative organization that governs parts of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

• "The Palestinian territories" is a term often used to refer collectively to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and sometimes only to those areas governed by the PNA.

• The "State of Palestine" was an attempt by the Palestine Liberation Organization to create a Palestinian state in 1988.

• The Palestinian people (or simply Palestinians) are Arabic-speaking people with family origins in Palestine.

• Prior to the establishment of Israel in 1948, "Palestinian" referred to all those residing in Palestine, regardless of ethnicity.
