Pakistan Standard Time

Pakistan Standard Time (PST) is the time zone for Pakistan. It is 5 hours ahead of GMT/UTC (UTC+5).

In 2002, the government cabinet decided that "in order to make maximum use of daylight and to save energy", they would adopt the Daylight Saving Time system. This required the country to advance the time by one hour on the night between the first Saturday and Sunday of April, and revert to the original position on October 15 each year. This system was adopted for one year on an experimental basis.

Usage of Daylight Saving Time (DST) ended on the first Sunday in October of 2002 at 00:01 and has not been used since. The reason cited behind the abolition of DST was that people were confused about the actual time. Because DST was first proposed by President Pervez Musharraf, people termed DST as "Musharraf Time". All organizations and institutions of the country followed the DST system, but most of the Pakistani who did not belong to such groups continued to observe non-DST time. This led to the question "what is the time?" being further clarified with "in which time system, real or Musharraf?"
