[edit] History and Today
Its corner stone was laid on October 12, 1793. After one century, October 12th was declared to be the birthday of UNC. In 1966, this building became one of the national Historical Landmarks.[1]
Today, renovated Old East is still housing male and female students as dormitory building.
[edit] Culture
The Old Well and Old East, as the earliest buildings in UNC, have always been the symbols of this university. There are some collections of art about Old East and Old Well in Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, North Carolina as well as in Wilson Library in UNC.
