[edit] Campus

[edit] Location

OCU is near the Oklahoma State Capitol campus in the heart of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area, only five minutes from the excitement of downtown Oklahoma City. The campus is amid historic and cosmopolitan inner-city neighborhoods with an unlimited number of urban eateries and cultural attractions near the campus one would expect in such a big city.

Local neighborhoods include the Mesta Park and Heritage Hills Historical neighborhoods. Here you will find some of the grandest houses in Oklahoma City along with tree-lined boulevards and heavily landscaped streets.

The campus lies immediately west of the rapidly developing chinatown known as Asia District, and the Plaza District, the Paseo, and the GLBT district at (NW 39th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue) are also nearby. The hip uptown district is in the area on NW 23rd Street as you head toward the capitol complex.

Other areas of interest include the N. Western District, popular with the creative class, the posh inner-suburb of Nichols Hills, and midtown as you head toward downtown.

[edit] Housing

There are a number of housing options on the campus of Oklahoma City University, include dormitories, apartments, and the Greek system. There are also countless housing options off-campus ranging from boarding houses and flats in the Asia District and 39th Street, to apartment complexes and rental houses in Uptown and the Plaza District. Housing options tend to be rather inexpensive (this is Oklahoma City) with more than abundant urban attractions in the vicinity.

[edit] Residential Halls

There are a wide variety of dormitories on campus, some of which are coed. Banning Hall is the honors hall, offering housing for freshmen and upperclass coeds. Smith Hall is the men’s hall. Draper Hall is OCU’s coed law and graduate hall, offering private rooms and an optional meal plan. Walker Hall is currently OCU’s only highrise dorm on campus, at seven stories. It offers housing to freshmen and upperclass women.

OCU’s New Residence Hall is an exciting addition to on campus housing. It is a coed facility for freshmen and upperclass students, complete with underground parking.

[edit] Apartments

There are two apartment complexes on campus, University Manor and Cokesbury Court. They are available to upperclass students only and offer an alternative to the residential dorms.

University Manor consists of one-bedroom units with single or double occupancy. All unitilities are paid (except phone, cable, internet) and each unit has its own kitchen area, central heating and air conditioning, and private parking. There is also a laundry facility.

Cokesbury Court offers residential hall type living in separate apartment units. All apartments have full service kitchens and built-in dining/ study area. There is a hot tub or a pool as well as a BBQ pavilion and a clubhouse with big screen television entertainment.

[edit] Greek System

Fraternities and Sororities are an integral part of the university. Today OCU is home to five National Greek-letter organizations, which collectively constitute the largest membership-based and multi-faceted community on campus. Collectively, they represent almost 20% of the campus population. The following is a list of the Greek houses at OCU:

[edit] Campus Life

Opportunities for cultural enrichment and entertainment are also abound on the OCU campus, including concerts, play performances, operas, films, sporting events, and seminars by world-renowned speakers and business leaders. A sample of the guest speakers at OCU include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel prize winner Elie Wiesel, poets Laureate Ted Kooser and Billy Collins, author Kurt Vonnegut, journalist Helen Thomas, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, and Republican politician Karen Hughes.
