Nottingham 1936 is often considered one of the strongest chess tournaments of all time, "reminiscent of the unsurpassed quality of the of the first great Hastings tournament of 1895."[1] It included five world champions – past, present and future – and many other well known players such as Reuben Fine, Samuel Reshevsky and Salo Flohr.

It was also the last major event for Emanuel Lasker.
