The New York Titans are a professional lacrosse team in the National Lacrosse League that began playing in the 2007 season.

Prior to being the name of a lacrosse team, the New York Titans was the original name of the New York Jets.

This franchise is not to be confused with the New York Saints who played first as the New Jersey Saints at Brendan Byrne Arena in The Meadowlands from 1987-1988, and then at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island from 1989-2003. The Saints franchise is technically still in existence and listed by the league as inactive.

The principal owner is Gary Rosenbach, founder of Galleon Group. The ownership group also includes William E. Ford, Mark H. Ford, Nick Leone, Flip Huffard and Richard Ullmann[1].

[edit] History

The Titans played to a 4-12 record in its inaugral season under the franchise's head coach, Adam Mueller. [2]. George Daniel was named the Titan's Team President and Governor after stepping down from his position as the NLL's Deputy Commissioner & General Counsel [3].George Daniel resigned after the 2006-2007 season and the Titans named former Long Island Lizards General Manager Timothy Kelly as GM.

During the 2007 season, the Titans played four of their eight home games at Madison Square Garden, and the other four at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.[1] For the 2008 season, the team will play all of its home games at Madison Square Garden, while playing one game at a neutral site at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ[4].

The Titans played their first game on January 6, 2007 in Chicago, Illinois against the Shamrox and lost. Gewas Schindler opened the scoring 1:20 in, scoring the first goal in Titans history, but the Shamrox won the game 15-12[5]. The Titans' first win came in their third game, and first ever at home, when they defeated the Shamrox 11-9.
