Naam (English: Name) is a 1986 film starring Nutan, Sanjay Dutt and Kumar Gaurav, directed by Mahesh Bhatt. It comments on the phenomenon of Indians getting work abroad and settling there, while their families long for them. It attempts to show that the quality of life and prosperity of the West takes its toll in terms of ones roots and culture.
[edit] Synopsis
Nutan, a widow lives with her two sons, Kumar Gaurav and Sanjay Dutt. The younger brother, Dutt, goes to Dubai with his brother's help.
On reaching there he finds that he was tricked by the travel agent and is forced to work for a gangster, Paresh Rawal.
Because of his criminal activities, he is unable to return back to India for years, and loses contact with his brother and mother.
Kumar Gaurav sets off to find his younger brother. The rest of the film deals with the long search filled with Bollywood drama, music and action.
The movie had the instant hit Chhitthi Aayi Hai sung by Pankaj Udhas, probably the best song against Brain Drain, a phenomenon popular but equally despised by many Indians in the late 70's to early 90's.
