[edit] Criticism
Before H.O.T. split in the 2001, there were many detractors of Moon. It appeared that some overacting fanatics of H.O.T. made other people uncomfortable with the group. This became a significant social phenomenon in South Korea after Moon became a solo rock artist; uncountable parody pictures, texts, and musics of him flooded over the internet. Feeling that these were unfair insults, Moon once appealed for people to stop this in a newspaper interview, and the article about it on the web recorded more than 320,000 comments because of his detractors swarming on it, called seongjisullye(성지순례; literally means 'pilgrimage'). [1][2].
People who dislike Moon have expressed the following reasons:
- Beginning activities as a solo, Moon claimed that he was now a rock musician. Since he was formerly an idol star of teenage girls, orthodox rock fans had opposed this. Especially the case when Moon Hee Jun was seen dancing along with 4 other backup dancers in his video "Alone".
- It is believed that Moon have said a lot of things quite impertinent; for example, "I've been working on my new album, eating only 3 cucumbers per day because rock is a music genre of hungry people". However, no obvious evidence for this remark have been discovered, thus it looks like a hoax made by his detractors.
Fortunate for Moon, the detractors had decreased since he had gone to serve in the army, a mandatory duty for all Korean men.
[edit] Return From Military
Former H.O.T. member Moon Hee-jun who completes his military service on November 20th says he never wants to leave his fans again.
He will hold concert Dec. 29-31 at Kintex in Ilsan to celebrate his military discharge. In a recent message posted on his homepage, Moon said he named the concert ‘Returns 1996’ to start out anew as a singer with the commitment he had when he first debuted.
He also thanked his fans’ continued love during while he was gone, saying he will never part with them again.
At the concert, he will showcase unreleased songs which he wrote for his fans way back in March 2000.
Hee Jun has been serving at the Defense Agency for Public Information Services as a special recruit since November 2005.
