Milby began its life in 1926 as an all-White high school. HISD desegregated in the 1970s.

In 1988, Milby High School's enrollment swelled over 3,000 people due to many Latino immigrants arriving in southeast Houston; Milby was mostly Hispanic by 1988 [1].

In the fall of 2000 Chávez High School opened to relieve Milby, and Milby's enrollment fell by 1,000 that year [1].

[edit] School uniform

Uniforms consist of collared shirts and navy blue, khaki, capris, or skirts.

The Texas Education Agency specified that the parents and/or guardians of students zoned to a school with uniforms may apply for a waiver to opt out of the uniform policy so their children do not have to wear the uniform [3]; parents must specify "bona fide" reasons, such as religious reasons or philosophical objections.
