[edit] Academics

According to the Florida Department of Education Miami Carol City High has received the grade of F on the School Accountability Reports for the school years 2001-02, 2002-03, and 2006-07. [1]

MCCHA was labeled a "dropout factory" in a Johns Hopkins University study of US Department of Education data. The study looked at the retention rates of students from their freshman to senior year. MCCHS had a retention rate of just 53%, meaning that only 53 out of every 100 students who entered the school as a freshman made it through their senior year and obtained a high school diploma.[2]

MCCSH is known for its marching band having performing in Mexico. The Mighty Marching Chiefs currently have straight superior ratings and hold the title as the biggest band in Dade County, the third largest school district in the country.[citation needed]

FOOTBALL

The MCC football team, currently headed by Coach Walt Frazier has struggled for the past few years, finishing 2007 with a record of 2-8. Miami Carol City, despite the current athletic state, has had a football powerhouse. The Chiefs were the first school to have back to back state titles in 1996-97.
