[edit] Notes
- The figure is derived from ridership of two operators in Seoul: Seoul Metro 1,061,532,456 (Jan 2006 ~ Dec 2006)[19], and SMRT 592,882,234 (Jan 2006 ~ Dec 2006)[20]. This figure counts only gate-passers, so it only includes the two systems' riders. Passengers from Incheon Subway, Korail metropolitan railroad system and A'REX are excluded. (2.279 billion if all included)
- The data of Shanghai and Beijing came from Statistics China.[citation needed]
- Airport Express excluded.
- Japanese rapid transit are mostly not metros or "subterranean", as opposed to European systems. For total rail transit ridership, Greater Tokyo (130 lines) and Greater Osaka (70 lines) transport far more daily passengers than any else on earth.
