Martin Charnin

Martin Charnin (born November 24, 1934) is a Tony Award-winning American lyricist, writer, and theatre director.
Born in New York City, Charnin began his theatrical career as a performer, appearing as one of the Jets in the original production of West Side Story. His first assignment as a lyricist was Hot Spot (1963), with music by Mary Rodgers. He made his directing debut with Nash at Nine, a 1973 revue he conceived.
His song "The Best Thing You've Ever Done" was recorded and release as a single on Columbia Records by Barbrå Streisand. It was not initially release on an album, but it was finally released on her 1974 album The Way We Were.
His best-known work is as lyricist for the hit musical Annie. He also wrote the words and directed the sequel to Annie, Annie Warbucks.
