M-Audio (formerly Midiman), a business unit of Avid Technology, is a manufacturer of a variety of audio products, including digital audio workstation interfaces, keyboard MIDI controllers, condenser microphones, and studio monitors. M-Audio is a leading provider of creative tools for computer-centric musicians and audio professionals. Founded in 1988 and self-capitalized until the Avid purchase, the company now has independent offices in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France and Japan. After Avid purchased M-Audio, Digidesign and M-Audio cooperated to release a version of Pro Tools tailored for M-Audio sound interfaces (Pro Tools M-Powered), which enables many home musicians to use a cut down version of Digidesign’s flagship product. M-Audio has established a solid reputation as a provider of reliable and flexible products at a reasonable price.[citation needed]

Guitarists have the Blackbox (a combined effects box and interface), a range of audio interfaces and controller keyboards covers a lot of ground in terms of anyone interested anything between electronic music, pop and classical composers; additionally that have a range of products aimed specifically at DJs, such as turntable-style tactile midi controllers and extremely advanced and specialised DJ software.
Many M-Audio products are very portable. Products include the Solaris USB microphone, the Oxygen and Axiom 25 Key Controller keyboards. They also boast the smallest interface to run Protools a protools session.
Many studio artists use M-Audio products, including Mark Isham (film composer), Black Eyed Peas, Brian Transeau, and Jimmy Chamberlain.
