Laïkó

Laïkó was a style of popular music in Greece during the 1950s and 1960s. The influence of Middle Eastern music on laïkó can be most strongly seen in 1960s indoyíftika, Indian filmi (popular music for movies) with Greek lyrics. Manolis Angelopoulos was the most popular indoyíftika performer, while pure laïkó was dominated by superstar Stelios Kazantzidis and Stratos Dionisiou.
