Kamikakushi

Kamikakushi (Japanese: 神隠し) is a word used in Japanese folklore) to literally mean "Hidden by god," or correctly "spirited away" or "disappearing mysteriously" in English. Kamikakushi, in Japanese folklore, is used to refer to the mysterious disappearance of people, due to god taking them away from anger. This belief may have been due to the common disappearances of people in ancient Japan, causing people to believe that god has taken that person away when in fact this was likely to be from a normal kidnapping.

Spirited away is an anime by Miyazaki, based loosely on this word. The protagonist, Chihiro is "spirited away" of her name, which is replaced by a name given by Yubaba to take control of her - Sen.
