Investigation is the process of inquiring into a matter through research, follow-up, study, or formal procedure of discovery. The term may refer to any of the following:

• Academic or intellectual investigation aimed at the discovering, interpreting, and revising of knowledge.
• Private investigation undertaken by a private investigator or a detective
• Investigation carried out under official authority by law enforcement personnel
• Criminal investigation:
  • Criminal law
  • Criminal procedure

• Observational studies conducted as medical research in Clinical trials

• Investigation (film), a 2006 Bulgarian drama film
